According to our preview blog "PHOENIX Materialize Your Vision for Sustainable Future", environment protection has been set as the 2023's annual goal by Phon Tech. We dedicate to exploring more ways to protect our environment and earth.

As climate concerns continue to grow and people are trying to live a more sustainable lifestyle. So, it increases the people to pay more attention to the products they use, including where products come from and how they are made. It impacts the manufacturer to disclose more information to the customer. Moreover, using recycled material in the product has been a trend and that's why the recycled standard become important in the industry.

Brief introduction about GRS& RCS.

The Global Recycle Standard (GRS) and Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) are international, voluntary, full-product certification standard that verifies recycled content in products and also implements requirements along the chain of custody, including the traceability of recycled material and the quality control of the recycled product.

These two standards are developed by the textile industry, and it gives the textile industry a way to verify their sustainability claims from raw material to the final product. However, more and more manufacturers from every field volunteer to join the standard and using recycled materials in their products.

GRS vs. RCS

In contrast to RCS, GRS is a more rigorous standard. GRS focuses more on accurate content claims, environmental and social responsibility. Also, the heart of the standard is to minimize the harmful chemical impacts on the environment. Let's take a look at the comparison between GRS and RCS.

  • GRS is an advanced version of RCS.
That's why RCS products can use GRS-certificated materials while GRS products cannot use RCS materials.
  • RCS: Products with 5-100% recycled contents.
GRS: Products with 20-100% recycled contents and also a minimum of 50% recycled materials
are eligible to use the GRS logo.
  • The certification logo is different between GRS and RCS.
  • GRS standard adds environmental and social responsibility requirements.
  • GRS has requirements for the chemicals used in the process.

In summary, the "Different recycling content proportion" and "Environmental& Social responsibility audit" are two main different parts between GRS& RCS. Therefore, whether a manufacturer applies for GRS or RCS certification, it still has to depend on the condition of the product and the need of the customer.

Phon Tech is going to achieve RCS certificate!
Achieving RCS is our primary goal in 2023 and we hope can get the RCS certificate in 3rd quarter.
PHOENIX™ TPE 10 Series is our recycled grade and the recycled contents include the GRS-certificated materials and the scarps generated from the extruders facility or post-industry materials. We believe that is a future trend and also a way to form a circular economy. The last but not least, we all want to protect the environment and lessen its impact on the world- no matter now or in the future.
